EL PASO, Texas —

Local talk radio legend Teresa Provencio is out at KLAQ Radio.

There is some debate as to the reason for her leaving, but there is no doubt about the legacy she has left behind.

"I thought that the receptionist was pretty funny, so we should put her on the radio," said KLAQ radio personality Buzz Adams, who was there when Provencio started her job on the air at KLAQ.

She was a temporary secretary who seemed like a natural for radio.

"She was real amateur. She was practicing how to go on air and she was splendid the first time she went on," said Adams.

Twelve years later, Provencio ended her time at KLAQ with this Facebook post: "Today is my last day with the KLAQ morning show. The show is going in a different direction to appeal to a younger audience so I have been asked to step down."

Adams said in his opinion, he believes that age was not an issue.

"Absolutely not,"  he said.

Adams said he was there for several of the discussions involving Provencio.

"I was in on the meetings where her issue was discussed, and I can tell you 100 percent that the word 'younger' or 'young' or any variation of that was not brought up," said Adams.

He says Provencio had a natural connection with listeners.

"I think El Paso really felt that Teresa was the sort of person they could be friends with, or a neighbor with," said Adams.

She also had a love for her listeners.

"I would never see Teresa not happy to see someone or hug a listener," said Adams.

The El Paso Times reports that "sources close to the station have told the El Paso Times there are rumors Provencio was forced out."

KFOX 14 asked Adams if Provencio quit or was forced out.

"These are human resource questions. I'm not authorized to speak on it," said Adams.

Provencio tells KFOX that she couldn't talk about it.

"Without speaking for Teresa, I believe it was a decision that she agreed with and she definitely left on her own terms," said Adams.

KLAQ says that formally they did not wish to comment on the issue.
