EL PASO, Texas —
Patricia Facio, 62, arrived at a post office on George Dieter Drive and East Glen Drive Monday just before midnight.
According to police, she was there to put letters in the mailbox. The letters fell out of her PT Cruiser car and when she tried to pick them up, so did she.
Facio's foot released the brake and the car was still in gear. She somehow became trapped under the moving car.
Dean Martinez was also at the post office. He heard screaming and saw the empty car. Martinez called 911. He thought someone was being assaulted. Despite the operator's advice, Martinez went toward the car.
According to reports Facio had been there for about 30 minutes.
"I tried to tell the lady, 'Pull away from me. Pull away from the tire,'" Martinez said. "But by that time, here comes a police officer. He rolls in and he runs right in. He gets in the vehicle and he pulls the vehicle forward."
Facio was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with a broken leg.
