Federal prosecutors allege that Marco Alferez had sex with a minor in his home and video taped it.

During the bond hearing at the Federal Court House, KFOX learned authorities said they found 98 online videos and 12 VHS tapes of homemade child pornography in Marco Alferez's possession. Federal prosecutors said they believe 65 to 70 young children, some from the El Paso area, were shown in the videos.

The 98 videos were those found inside computers seized from federal agents at his west El Paso home last week. Authorities said both computers had sexually explicit images of child pornography on them.

The judge denied bond for the 34-year-old dance teacher.

KFOX spoke to an aunt of Alferez, who said she did not know these details about her nephew and that she would stand by him.

"He's a good a relative. I don't think he's a menace to the community. He helps the community. He helps family, and he's an inspiration to the world," said Maria Teresa Garcia, Alferez's aunt.

An active state warrant was issued for Alferez based on the activity shown in the videos, officials said. This will open a separate case against Alferez.

El Paso Independent School District officials released the following statement:

"The District is taking these allegations very seriously. The well-being and safety of our students is our top priority and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation.

"The District routinely performs national criminal background checks, including fingerprinting, and reference checks on all of our teaching applicants before putting teachers under contract. This procedure was followed prior to hiring Marco Alferez and no criminal record or arrests were found."
