EL PASO, Texas —

The driver of a car that was stalled at an intersection asks the wrong people for help.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the intersection at Glorieta Rd. and Miguel C. Telles where Border Patrol agents said that a driver and his passenger were under the influence of alcohol.

When the deputies got to the scene, they discovered that Jesse Cruz had gotten out of his vehicle to ask passengers inside another car for help.

Little did he know that those people were federal agents.

The Border Patrol agents said they suspected Cruz of being intoxicated. The agents said Cruz's passenger and girlfriend, Maria Guadalupe Gomez, was also intoxicated.

Cruz was shocked to learn that the people he had asked for help were Border Patrol agents.

Authorities said the couple were in possession of marijuana, cocaine and several pills identified as hydrocodone.

The couple were booked into the El Paso County Detention Center.
