Increased Vandalism At Elementary School Has Officials Taking Action

EL PASO, Texas —

On top of having a lockdown on Thursday, Marion Manor elementary school is having to deal with some vandalism problems.

That's why Marion Manor staff has some new rules.

"They lock the gates real early then they open them after school," said Mary Dominguez who picks up her grandkids at Marion Manor.

The gates at the school will now be closed between school hours to ensure that students and teacher stay safe. The precaution stems from recent incidents that happened at the school. A letter was sent to parents explaining that a teacher's vehicle was taken from the faculty parking lot.

The letter explains the school has experienced vandalism and that's why they close the gates back up at 3:15 p.m. District officials urge parents to pick up their children promptly to prevent any more incidents.

"The kids are just playing here on their own and the parents aren't here yet. The parents should show up early or have someone else pick them up," said Jeremy Masters, a parent.
