EL PASO, Texas —

Residents who usually have their garbage collected on Tuesdays will have to wait a few extra days, thanks to the holidays.

City officials said those residents will have their garbage collected on Saturday this week and next week because of Christmas and New Year's Day.

No other collection days were affected by the holiday.

Citizens have voiced their concerns about the delay in the garbage collection, and have wondered if they will be charged the additional lift fee for excess trash. City officials said that there is no need to worry.

"We're going to be waiving the fee because of the extra delay in picking up the trash," said John Garza, deputy director of environmental services. "We recognize that there will be additional trash that's generated because of the Christmas holiday, and so we are asking that all that trash be bagged. We're going to go ahead and collect up all the bagged trash whether it's in an overflowing bin or on the side."

The Greater El Paso Landfill will close at noon on New Year's Eve and will be closed on New Year's Day. The landfill will resume regular business hours Jan. 2.
