The borderland region saw heavy winds on Saturday, with wind gust of up to 50 mph.

The wind was especially hard to endure for those working outdoors.

"Actually the walk to work was treacherous. I had to fight the wind to get here," said David Ramirez who works at a tax office on Mesa Street and attracts customers by holding a sign and wearing a statue of liberty costume.

"Once I started working, it (the winds) died down a little bit but then it picked back up. I got smacked with sand all over the face," said Ramirez.

Throughout the day there were periods where visibility was very low but no accidents were reported.

"You couldn't see downtown," said Ramirez.

Further south, the chilly weather didn't keep shoppers away from the downtown shopping district.

"I think it really doesn't affect the shopping -- no matter what the weather," said one shopper from Las Cruces.

Temperatures are expected to drop throughout the weekend.
