High-Speed Chase Ends With Golf Course Crash

A routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase for El Paso police Tuesday night.

The incident started around 10 p.m. when police attempted to pull over a black truck. Officers said the truck picked up speed and exited the highway at Hawkins.

The chase ended at Lone Star Golf Course when the truck lost control and plowed through a chain link fence on the driving range.

The driver was pulled out of the vehicle and treated by paramedics.

Some residents said they were shocked at what happened in their neighborhood.

Penelope Williams of east El Paso said, "I don't know. Maybe he was sacred, maybe something triggered him. But to jump over the fence and end up in the green -- he could have killed somebody."

As of Wednesday morning, it was still not clear why the man ran from police.
