EL PASO, Texas —

A toddler who was choking was rescued by officers nearby that were responding to a broken window call on the 600 block of North Carolina on Sunday.

Around 8:30 p.m., officers from the police department and the housing authority were in the Lower Valley when they said a woman flagged them down, asking for help.

Her nephew, a 14-month-old boy, was choking on a candy and needed aid, said police.

They immediately ran over and helped get the candy out.

Emergency medical staff was called to the scene.

Police said that they determined that the toddler was OK and didn't have to be hospitalized.
