Help Available To Small Business Owners

September 1, 2006 —

Small business owners looking to expand may find it's easier than they think.

The Texas Department of Transportation said many small businesses don't realize the department contracts much of its work to local businesses.

Yet, many small business owners don't know how to go about submitting their bids and getting the contracts with the department.

In response, the department is hosting a series of small business briefings. In a few weeks, those seminars will come to El Paso.

Blanca Del Valle of the Texas Department said, "It is an opportunity to come and network with (the department) and see where your business fits in."

Del Valle said there are opportunities for businesses such as landscaping, surveying, engineering, mechanical jobs, translation/interpretation and office supplies.

"Each one will talk about different areas on how to work with (the department), how to put your bids in, how you do the contracts (and) what is available out there -- so it's really a very important event," Del Valle said.

The small business briefings in El Paso will be held Sept. 13 and 14 at the El Camino Real Hotel. Registration is $25.
