EL PASO, Texas —

El Pasoans have another name to choose from in May for the city's next mayor.

Hector Lopez announced his candidacy for mayor Wednesday night at a downtown El Paso bar. He will run against local businessman Robert Cormell and city Rep. Steve Ortega.

Lopez hosts a radio talk show on KHRO and has degrees from Georgetown and Villanova universities.

Lopez also worked in the city's economic development department as an adviser under former El Paso Mayors Ray Caballero and Joe Wardy.

"I think we need to create public trust in our community and I think that is priority number one," Lopez said. "We need to create public trust in our community, and I am going to be dedicated to that."

Although Lopez has not held a public office, the El Paso Times reports that he wants to further development and turn the city into a "great metroplex of the Americas" while also reducing the cost of living.

The mayoral election will be May 11.
