EL PASO COUNTY, Texas —

Officials with a health clinic in East El Paso said they are getting ready to provide new services to thousands of patients.

On Tuesday, Victoria Villanueva got her checkup to play sports in high school at the Project Vida Health Center. She's been going there her entire life.

"When I was pregnant with her, I used to come here all the time," said Virginia Villanueva, Victoria's mother.

This organization means a lot to this family.

"They treated me right. There was love here and I didn't have to drive very far. So it is convenient to have it here," said Virginia.

She isn't the only one who feels that way. Project Vida estimates they've helped more than 3,000 patients in the past year, including saving one woman's life

"They detected cancer, so she started therapy, but it's very important to come very year," said.Virginia about a friend of hers.

The clinic is about to expand by adding 60 feet of space to the already existing dental, health care and medical lab.

'A lot of this will become an exercise area, and an area where they teach these folks how to cook. It's just expanding what they've got," said Morris Aldridge from the Clint Independent School District.

"This is a community that doesn't have all the services and resources that other people have in other communities. That's good for our patients that we improve their quality of life," said Dr. Luis Roderiguez.

Mental health care experts will also be at the location.

"I see a lot of kids get in trouble. The kids and their parents need classes to learn about their problems. And they need professionals," said Virginia.

These services are important, especially for people whose closest health services are miles away.

"Most of the people here are Hispanic, and we don't have the culture to go to the doctor, because most of them don't have insurance. So if something like this is available, they are going to take advantage of that," said Virginia.

According a spokesperson for the to the Clint Independent School District, bidding for the expansion started in December. After a contractor is selected, they'll have 100 days to finish the project.
