EL PASO,Texas —

A Halloween party became a nightmare and one person died after dozens of people showed up uninvited to a home on Jamin Place in Socorro, the home owner told KFOX-14.

Lalo Chavez said he came home this morning to broken glass on the floor in several areas, broken and bent door frames, missing laptops and other electronics and a person dead on his front lawn.

He said he was working the overnight shift and his daughters, 16 and 18, were at his home with their boyfriends only. He said his daughters were surprised when dozens of people starting showing up to their home at about midnight Halloween night. He said the girls tried to kick the people out, and many of them resisted.

Several of Chavez' neighbors told KFOX-14 Jamin Place is a quiet road. But at about 1 a.m. on Tuesday, they all said they woke up to gun shots. One neighbor said there were five of them.

Chavez said when his daughters tried repeatedly to get the people out of the house, some of them started fighting with each other. The fight moved outside until one man started shooting, leaving one person dead and another injured, police and Chavez said.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said 19-year-old Hector Gonzalez died at the scene. Another teenager, 17-year-old Ruben Ramirez, was shot but is out of the hospital.

Chavez said he is happy his daughters are safe, but worries about the parents of the victims and his home. He said he is trying to get his house fixed through his insurance provider, and said he will likely be able to do so by labeling what happened as theft and vandalism.

His daughters were at the Sheriff's Office answering questions from deputies when this article was first published. They have since been released and are "doing ok," Chavez said.

"I'm just surprised," Chavez told KFOX-14. "I just don't know how this happened."

A neighbor who did not want to be identified told KFOX-14 there were dozens of "nice" cars parked along Jamin Place and roads closeby during the party. She said less than a minute after gun shots were fired, the people and cars vanished.

She and several others who live on Jamin Place told KFOX-14 they've never seen a party at the Chavez house. They've never had a problem with loud neighbors or violence in the area, they said.
