LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

The 2012 New Mexico general obligation bond issue B would provide a total of $9.7 million to New Mexico libraries if passed in November.

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces would see $244,498.02 of the money, according to the New Mexico Library Association.

Library administrator Lynette Schurdevin said the money would go toward updating and replacing the computer lab, which has 26 computers, along with updating technology.

"The money would go a long ways," Schurdevin said. "It would also include audio books, downloadable e-books, databases for researching."

Schurdevin said on average, 1,200 people use Thomas Branigan Memorial Library everyday.

The cost each homeowner would would depend on the value of your home.

According to the New Mexico State Board of Finance, homeowners would pay 56 cents per $100,000 of the value of their home for the library funding if it is approved.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the average price of a home in Las Cruces is around $152,400.

Las Crucen Linda Lopez said she feels it's worth investing in the libraries.

"I come here monthly," Lopez said. "I read at least five books a month. They could possibly use a larger selection of books or something to that sort."

Voters will also decide on bonds for higher education and improvements to senior citizen facilities.
