EL PASO, TEXAS —

Gas prices in El Paso dropped slightly this week, while the national average saw an increase.

Gas prices are down 2 cents a gallon in El Paso, average $3.02 while the national average is up 3 cents.

KFOX14 spoke with drivers filling up at the Murphy USA Gas Station on Alameda Avenue in Socorro where gas was selling for $2.87 a gallon.

The station only opened Friday and some drivers said they didn't even know about it.

"After the holidays, it's like we got to make up for what we spent, so gas prices at $2.87? Not bad," El Pasoan Robert Romero said.

"When you're on a fixed income, you have to watch every dime, every penny because you have to give yourself only certain amount of money per week so this helps," Socorro resident Alberto Roldan said.

The KFOX14 gas tracker found other gas stations in El Paso selling gas for under $3 a gallon, including the Circle K on Transmountain Drive and Gateway Boulevard and Alon on North Loop Drive and Mauer Road.
