Gas Leak Forces Evacuations, Street Closures

LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

A natural gas leak near the corner Hagerty Road and Milton Avenue is forcing the evacuation of area residents and the closure of streets while city crews attempt to repair the line.

Las Cruces Police are blocking access to the area on Milton between College Street and Hagerty Road.

Around 15-20 residents of nearby apartments are being allowed onto a Roadrunner Transit bus, parked outside of the evacuation area, until they can return to their homes.

Las Cruces firefighters are assisting city crews as they attempt to stop the leak and repair the gas line.

Officials are asking motorists to avoid traveling in that area until the necessary repairs are made.
