Gang Fight In Downtown El Paso

February 25, 2006 —

A gang fight in Downtown El Paso disrupted afternoon business and homelife for residents.

The police department's gang unit responded to help officers already on the scene Saturday morning.

Police said a mother was walking with her three sons, ages 17, 16 and 13, who police believe are involved in gangs.

They say a rival gang member confronted one of the brothers with a weapon and the mother quickly ran for help.

"When I came, right here in the street. They try to hit my kids he took out I don't know if it was a gun. I ran to my neighbors and called the cops cause I'm really scared about this," said Anna Ramirez, of Downtown El Paso.

Police later determined the weapon was a knife.

The rival gang member, a 25-year-old male, was arrested.

No one was injured.
