Friends Have Vigil For Teen Who Died In Motorcycle Crash

EL PASO, Texas —

The notice was short but dozens of people made a point to be here for Hector Garcia Jr. His father, Hector Garcia Sr. said just by the number of people who attended speak volumes of the kind of person his son was.

"I didn't expect this. I expected his core friends but they are his core friends. Eastwood High School is a big family," said Garcia.

His father says Hector was pronounced dead this morning. Police say on Sunday the 16-year-old was traveling north on U.S 54 on his Yamaha R6 motorcycle when he crashed into a car. He was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center in critical condition.

Garcia said his organs were donated and it makes him feel better to know even in his death he helped other people. He said he has a message for motorists.

"I would like to tell everybody, people who ride motorcycles be careful out there. Look out. People who drive cars, look out for motorcycles, they're driving something small than you," said Garcia.

Hector Jr. would have been a senior at Eastwood his coming school year. His father said he wanted to be an industrial engineer. They were already receiving letters from colleges that were interested in him.
