FORT BLISS, Texas —

On December 6, 2011 Steve was diagnosed with stage IV B Burkitts Lymphoma, including bone marrow.

His entire lymphatic system was besieged by the cancer, he also had many tumors in his torso and an extremely large tumor in his head that caused facial drooping. The cancer can kill you in 10 days. Steve was on day 12.

He started emergency chemotherapy. His complications to chemo kept him in the hospital for a good amount of the time.

On March 1st his Oncologist said he was in remission. But, by May, it had returned with a vengeance.

The chemotherapy can hold the cancer at bay, but it isn’t killing it. Steve is now being sent to MD Anderson. He is in need of a bone marrow transplant. His family, wife and 3 children, are fighting hard to be by his side.

That’s how Fort Bliss Families have stepped in to help. Family and Friends arranged a massive bone marrow registry drive system to try and help Steve find a marrow match.

"There are soldiers and people who need bone marrow transplants all over the world," said Cindy Holland, a volunteer. "And so by putting yourself into this registry, you're going to be able to save someone else's life.

The registry will be held at the Fort Bliss Non-Commissioned Officer Academy
Building 2E Pershing Road
Friday, June 8th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Another registry drive will be held the same day at Freedom Crossing, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

To get on the bone marrow registry list, it entails a form to be filled out and a cheek swab taken. It takes only minutes, said Cindy Holland, a family friend.
