Fort Bliss soldier killed while fighting in Afghanistan

EL PASO, Texas —

Specilalist Spc. Jason Edens died in a Bethesda Maryland Bethesda, Md., hospital yesterday.Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Defense said Edens sustained suffered wounds on April 15 in Laghman province Afghanistan when the enemy attacked his unit with small arms fire.

Edens' awards and decorations included the Purple Heart, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal and the Army Good Conduct Metal Medal, among others.

Fort Bliss is coordinating a memorial ceremony for the 22-year-old and 22-year-old, which will be announced at a later date.

He is survived by his wife.
