FORT BLISS, Texas —
The soldier involved in a standoff situation on Fort Bliss killed himself Sunday.
Fort Bliss officials confirmed the soldier's death to KFOX14 on Monday.
Around 1 p.m. Sunday, military police were called to the Hayes Housing Complex on Fred Wilson Drive in Northeast El Paso.
The standoff, that lasted over eight hours, had the area sectioned off, making it safe for residents to go outside, said said Col. Joseph Simonelli Jr.
Fort Bliss officials did not say what time of day the soldier killed his himself.
"At this time the situation on Fort Bliss has concluded. We are saddened at the loss of one of our Team Bliss Soldiers. His wife, daughters, family and fellow Soldiers are in our thoughts and prayers. This incident is still under investigation," said Maj. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, Commanding General Fort Bliss and 1st Armored Division.
