LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

After an ongoing investigation, a former Las Cruces probation and parole officer was arrested on bribery of a public officer charges, officials said.

Natalie Mascarenas, 30, allegedly demanded or received a bribe by a public officer or employee, according to Cristina Rodda, a spokesperson for the New Mexico Corrections Department.

Mascarenas resigned on Jan. 9 after an investigation by NMCD. Rodda said in a news release that Mascarenas allegedly conducted "undue familiarity" with an offender -- meaning that she addressed someone in a personal or familiar way other than what was appropriate.

Mascarenas started working with NMCD in June 2009 and completed an internship there before her employment.

Details about the investigation are currently unavailable.
