EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso's strong wind gusts Monday afternoon made it a bit more difficult for firefighters to put out two fires.

Firefighters responded to a house fire in west El Paso on the 1400 block of Luz De Sol Drive at about 4:12 p.m, and they were able to extinguish the fire in about an hour.

Fire officials said the fire started in the back bedroom, but the cause is undetermined.

A 6-year-old boy alerted the family of the fire, and the boy, another minor, an adult and two dogs were inside the home when the fire started, fire officials said.

They were able to escape and call 911, but the home is considered to be a total loss, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported, and Red Cross crews also responded to scene, fire officials said.

Wind gusts reached up to 44 mph in El Paso Monday, making the fire a threat to surrounding homes.

Earlier, fire crews were called out to a brush fire that spread across a 30-acre lot.
