Firefighters Hit Streets Through New Taskforce

El Paso, TX —

El Paso firefighters are heading into area homes to raise awareness about potential safety hazards. It's part of a new task force launched this month.

During a safety inspection, firefighters namely check to make sure you have an escape plan and inspect your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. They also check if residents have furniture or other items blocking windows and doors, and make sure appliances are not in danger of catching on fire.

The El Paso Fire Department has partnered with the National Fire Prevention Association to gather data about El Paso residents. Within the next six months, they will gather data on what neighborhoods have the fewest smoke detectors and what parts of the city are at highest risk for fires. Using that, officials will head into those parts of town to do community outreach and education.

The El Paso Fire Department is also giving out free smoke alarms to anyone who needs one. Upon request, they will also install them in your homes. To get free smoke alarm, head to El Paso Fire Department headquarters, located at 8600 Montana Avenue.

For those looking to schedule your inspection, head to their nearest El Paso fire department branch.
