Fire Breaks Out In Organ Mountain Range

Friday morning crews with New Mexico's Bureau of Land Management are finalizing plans on how to attack fire burning near long canyon in the Organ Mountain range.

Fort Bliss officials said they are aware there is a brush fire and they are keeping a close eye on

The Bureau of Land Management believes the fire is man made, and perhaps the result of weapons fired by the military.

Officials said the fire started after five Thursday evening, and has spread to perhaps a thousand acres.

"We're expecting easterly winds will push it over the mountains over to the east side or the west side of the mountain towards Las Cruces," said Bureau of Land Management Fuels Management Specialist Ryan Whiteaker.

BLM officials estimate the fire will continue to burn for a few days.
