Fire Behind Shopping Center Downs Power Lines

EL PASO, Texas —

The El Paso Fire Department fought a fire behind a shopping center on Alameda Avenue and Concepcion Street overnight Wednesday.

Battalion Capt. Matt Hiett said his crew first thought it was an electrical fire behind one of the businesses.

The fire happened at 1:27 a.m. Firefighters came across live power lines on the ground. El Paso Electric crews also responded and took control of the dangerous power lines.

The fire burned power lines, an electrical box behind a vacant business, and trash.

"At this time the fire was apparently impinging on the box, but we cannot determine if the box was actually involved in the fire," said Hiett.

Damage to the building was minimal and no one was injured.

Electric crews shut down power for two vacant businesses, but it will not affect the other businesses at the shopping center.
