EL PASO, Texas —

Four children were taken to the hospital after two SUVs collided in east El Paso leaving one of the kids in serious condition.

The wreck happened around 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Lee and Pebble Hills boulevards.

Eladia Retada lives near the intersection, and told KFOX14 she was home on Sunday when she looked out the window and noticed several police officers and firefighters.

"I don't know what happened," said Retada, "We went to look, and the police officer told us to leave because this wasn't just a crash, this was something more serious."

Officers haven't released details or ages of the children involved in the crash.

Our KFOX14 news crew captured what appeared to be a Mitsubishi Endeavor and a Chevy Tahoe slammed into each other, leaving shattered glass all over the intersection.

Eladia said she saw people lying on the ground, as emergency crews helped.

"On Pebble Hills there were three, and on Lee there were two," Retada said. "That's all I was able to see, I couldn't tell who they were."

Officers closed Lee Boulevard for more than an hour as they tried to figure out exactly what happened by talking to witnesses.

El Paso police public information officer Mike Baranyay told KFOX14 traffic investigators were not called out to the scene, meaning the children's injuries were non-life-threatening.
