EL PASO, Texas —

Fort Bliss officials said on Monday, the president will meet and greet soldiers who have spent time in combat. But he's not expected to give an official speech.

A Fort Bliss spokesman, Army Maj. Myles Caggins, briefed the media on the event scheduled for Tuesday. Caggins said after the president arrives at Biggs Army Airfield, he will make his way to a secure location inside Fort Bliss.

More than 200,000 soldiers from Fort Bliss have deployed to Iraq and there are still 1,200 there, according to Caggins. Caggins said that over the past several months 7,000 have returned from their role advising and assisting Iraqi security forces and combat operations in northern Iraq.

Not every Fort Bliss soldier will get to visit with the President but a number of selected soldiers, officers and enlisted. along with families of fallen soldiers, will be part of the group.

"The president will be meeting with troops and we're not exactly sure of his message, but we're happy that he shows in our location and we have a variety of soldiers who spent time in combat and others from around the base and some family members who will be able to interact with the president," said Caggins.

Fort Bliss officials said the visit will not be disruptive to the post. They said everything will be open, and it's business as usual.
