EL PASO, Texas —
El Paso police said they arrested a man after he ran away from them to destroy evidence and in the process one of their officers was hurt.
Police said 24-year-old Jamichael Walker was pulled over on Friday for not wearing his seat belt.
During the traffic stop Walker left his vehicle while it was in reverse.
Walker's car rolled into the officer knocking him and his motorcycle to the ground.
Walker who had ran inside his apartment after leaving his vehicle tried to destroy marijuana he had on him, police said.
Police said Walker had 176.7 grams of marijuana and a handgun in his possession.
The officer, an 11-year veteran of the El Paso Police Department, was treated for injuries to his leg and released from a local hospital.
Walker was placed under arrest for evading arrest or detention, possession of marijuana, tampering with fabricating physical evidence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Walker has a felony conviction in Georgia.
