LAS CRUCES, N.M. —

Dozens of people poured into the La Paz-Graham's funeral home in Las Cruces, N.M. on Friday afternoon to give their final goodbyes to Dona Ana Community College nursing instructor Lucy Sandoval.

Sandoval's service was held at 1 p.m. and she was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Friends and family members remember Sandoval as a well-respected, loving and caring woman who always looked after her students.

"Where you were doing she was just invested in. It was always nice having her talk with you because she just was so encouraging with everything you did -- even for her son and her family and she's going to be missed," said Aaron Prieto, who is friends with Sandoval's son.

Sandoval was hit by a car while crossing the streets on the New Mexico State University campus on Jan.17.

The 53-year-old was on life support for two weeks before she died on Jan. 25 at El Paso's University Medical Center.

Christina Parra, 22, has been identified as the driver who hit Sandoval. Parra told police that she had looked down at her radio and when she looked up Ms. Sandoval was rolling off her hood.

The district attorney's office has not decided if charges will be pressed.
