EL PASO, Texas —

Fellow police officers, family members and people who heard about the brutal killing attended a visitation for Jonathan Molina Thursday evening in Central El Paso.

As KFOX14 News reported, Molina was attacked in Central El Paso on Sept. 25 when he saw people vandalizing his car and spoke up. Witnesses said Molina identified himself as an off-duty police officer before the vandals attacked him.

Molina later died from his injuries.

Molina's sister, Esperanza Molina Rodriguez, said the suspect, Juan Antonio Gonzalez, 17, crushed an entire family. Gonzalez was arrested and charged with capital murder.

"We are a very united family," Rodriguez said. "My father has taught us to be very united, and this is very painful."

Esperanza Molina Rodriguez said she wished she and her brother had spent more time with each other in recent years.

"I want to say that I love him a lot," Rodriguez said. "Because of the current situation in Juarez, we couldn't see each other very often. It wasn't easy. I always sent him my prayers."

A funeral mass for Molina is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Cathedral at 1118 North Mesa.

The procession to Fort Bliss National Cemetery will follow the mass.
