EL PASO, Texas —
A man was seriously injured after being involved in a hit-and-run while walking home in Northeast El Paso.
His sister came to KFOX14 to ask the community to help find the driver who left the scene.
"It's upsetting because no one deserves to be left like that, on the side of the street," said Dwan Brockington.
Her 21-year-old brother CJ Brockington was two blocks from home when he was hit by a car. He was walking on a sidewalk on Dyer Street near Polk Avenue around 11 p.m. Friday. The driver left the scene.
Dwan said two women rushed to his aid and called 911 but his family didn't find out about the accident till the following morning because CJ didn't have any identification on him and police couldn't contact them.
Once CJ was well enough, he was able to call his sister.
"The first thing he said when he saw us was that he's just grateful that he was able to see us again and that he loved us," she said.
CJ told his sister he was playing video games about four blocks down from where he was hit and was walking home.
"He remembers hearing a loud noise and turning around and that's when all he saw was headlights. From there he felt pain and felt like he was flying in the air forever. From there he only remembers pieces," she said.
CJ has multiple injuries, the worst of which, a broken pelvis, required surgery. He is still in the hospital and could possibly have more surgeries before he's released but his sisters said he wants to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else and wants the community's help to prevent it.
"If they've seen anyone or know anything, please come forward because we can probably prevent something like this from happening again," she said.
Police are still investigating but anyone with any information about the hit-and-run is encouraged to call Crime Stopper at 915-566-TIPS (8677)
