EL PASO, Texas —

The aunt of victim involved in a deadly shooting that happened on Monday spoke to KFOX14.

Eva Brown was Lykisha’s aunt. She spoke with KFOX14 News from Columbus, GA over the phone Wednesday.

"It's just an unbelievable thing that happened,” Brown said. “We just can't believe it but we know it's true."

The El Paso Police Department released more information on the tragic double shooting that involved Fort Bliss soldiers.

Sgt. First Class James C. Steadman went to the home of Lykisha and Kelvin Gooding on the 3700 block of Coco Palm around 6:42 a.m. Police said Steadman shot Kelvin Gooding in the face and shot and killed Master Sgt. Lykisha T. Gooding.

While trying to escape, Steadman exchanged gunfire with Kelvin Gooding, who is also a soldier at Fort Bliss. Steadman was hit once in the upper thigh.

Steadman then drove his car to a Northeast El Paso home where he got into a confrontation with his wife. During the confrontation, Steadman was shot in the chest and killed. There is no word at this time if Steadman's wife who hasn't been identified faces any charges.

Wednesday, police said that Lykisha Gooding was Steadman’s supervisor at Fort Bliss.  At the time of the shooting there was a pending disciplinary action that had been filed by Lykisha against Steadman. Police did not say if that was the reason for Steadman shooting Lykisha.

Gooding's 11-year-old son who was home at the time of the first shooting was able to escape, police said.

Brown told KFOX14 they don't know how he is coping with the loss. She said they knew that he was being taken care of by a kindly neighbor until Gooding's two daughters who live in Georgia arrived in El Paso.

Brown mentioned that the boy and his father, Kelvin, may not at this time what happened.

"At this time we are not sure whether her husband and her son know that Lykisha is dead," Brown said.

Brown said that Kelvin Gooding was in the process of retiring from the Army. She said he’s doing okay.

"He's talking,” Brown said. “He's recuperating well from what we understand, from his gunshot wound."

Overall, Brown said that the family has not really accepted what happened.

"We're all still in shock over the whole situation," Brown said.
