Ethics Complaint Against Cobos Dismissed

The El Paso County Ethics Board today dismissed a complaint filed by City Representative Emma Acosta against County Judge Anthony Cobos.

As KFOX has reported, Acosta accused Cobos of releasing classified personnel information about her to a political opponent, a charge the county judge denies.

Wednesday, the ethics board sided with Cobos. "There was no factual basis to sustain the complaint. So, it was in the best interest of the board, based on the information we received that we dismiss it," said Kristine Moore with the El Paso County Ethics Board.

Judge Cobos said Wednesday’s ruling shows he did nothing wrong and released this statement: “I am pleased that the Ethics Commission found Mrs. Acosta complaint frivolous. Mrs. Acosta used this issue to bolster her re-election campaign but it cost the El Paso taxpayers’ time and money. Today’s ruling shows that I did nothing wrong and that I only responded to the information request in accordance with state law,” said Cobos.

The Ethics Board also dismissed a complaint brought by attorneys Stuart Leeds and Theresa Caballero against County Commissioner Veronica Escobar.
