EL PASO, TX —

El Paso police identified the motorcyclist who was killed in a crash Sunday morning on Interstate 10 as 29-year-old Carlos Sanchez.

Investigators said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. when Sanchez, who was riding a 2009 Suzuki GXR, attempted to pass a Chevy  Cobalt on Interstate 10 west by driving on the left shoulder of the freeway.

Sanchez then collided with the car and struck the center median, said police.

He was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. There were no other injuries.

Investigators said Sanchez was wearing a helmet and that speed was a factor in the crash.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor.

An investigation continues.
