EPPD to conduct "no refusal" DWI operation

EL PASO, Texas —

The New Year's crackdown on drunk driving begins this weekend.

The El Paso Police Department will conduct a, “No Refusa/Mandatory Blood Draw Operation”  beginning Saturday, December 31 at 10:00 p.m. and ending Sunday, January 1 at 4:00 a.m.

The operations are conducted randomly throughout the year and target drivers arrested for drunk driving who refuse to provide a breath sample for analysis.

In the event a driver refuses to provide a breath sample, the arresting officer completes the necessary paperwork for the issuance of a search warrant to secure a blood sample.  Once obtained, the sample is then sent to a lab for analysis.

The operations will continue on a random basis throughout the upcoming year.
