EL PASO, Texas —
As the El Paso Independent School District school board prepares to vote on a restructuring plan for the district, some employees may have new titles or different duties.
Interim Superintendent Vernon Butler looks to reclassify and possibly consolidate some positions within the district that has been plagued with controversy. However, officials said the reorganization concept was planned out for several months and not related to the recent slew of people who left the district.
As KFOX14 previously reported, former superintendent Terri Jordan resigned in December, former associate superintendent of elementary schools Maria Flores retired in January, and the district started the process of firing James Anderson, superintendent of high schools, after they said he didn't do enough to stop the district-wide cheating scheme.
Officials said the district hopes to provide more accountability and organization, which in turn can better serve students.
Butler said he's seen a lot of people tasked with the same duties and responsibilities within the district.
The district acknowledges that it is facing several holes in key administrative roles but say the reorganization has nothing to do with that.
Finance and personnel issues will be looked at when the new superintendent is hired. The restructuring only involves academics and leadership roles.
Butler said it will make communication between administration and academic areas better and the district can better serve students and campuses.
There are eight administrators reporting to the chief of staff and that is expected to be cut down to three. It is unknown what will happen to the people in those roles that were cut.
