EL PASO, Texas —

The teacher at the center of a controversy over a Sept. 11 drawing assignment for elementary school students has been reassigned, according to Renee De Santos, spokesperson for El Paso Independent School District.

A parent told KFOX14 that the teacher assigned her daughter to draw images depicting the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Ivie Gremillion's daughter, a fourth-grade student at Hughey Elementary, was told to draw the "boom cloud," planes hitting the building and people jumping out of the windows, Gremillion said.

The drawing included people jumping out of burning buildings yelling, "Help," and "I love you," and another student's drawing has one stick figure saying "One-way ticket to heaven."

"That's something that kids should get in trouble for drawing. That's people being murdered, committing suicide," Gremillion said in a previous interview.

De Santos said the teacher had been reassigned to a different campus, but it is unknown which school or what grade.

Since KFOX14 aired the story last month, the teacher hadn't been on campus. EPISD officials said they put the teacher on paid leave pending an investigation.
