EPISD board of trustees continue search for interim superintendent

By Joshua Zuber

EL PASO, Texas —

The El Paso Independent School District Board of Trustees are still looking for a replacement interim superintendent, and they discussed the credentials for the committee to pick the new interim superintendent.

EPISD officials met Tuesday night and decided that 19 people would be a part of the meeting.

James Vasquez, director of Region 19, addressed the board and said the community should have a big part in selecting the new permanent superintendent.

Vasquez specifically pointed that the criteria for the committee member ought to be an El Paso citizen who is involved in the community through a group like the Chamber of Commerce, an institution of higher education and someone from Fort Bliss.

Among other recommendations, one states that the names of the candidates who applied should not be disclosed until the candidates say it's OK.

During the meeting, it was also discussed how the board ought to develop the profile of the superintendent.

The reason behind this meeting is because former interim superintendent Terri Jordan stepped down on Sept. 11 claiming that she wanted to spend more time with her family.

Jordan took over the district after former superintendent Lorenzo Garcia was arrested last year by FBI agents on public corruption charges.

Kenneth George was appointed interim interim superintendent while the district searches for an interim superintendent.

George was a former interim superintendent for EPISD in the late 1990s.

The decision to hire a new interim superintendent will come out of Tuesday night's meeting. Stay tuned to KFOX14 News at Nine and KFOXTV.com for updates on their decision.
