EL PASO, Texas —

El Paso Mayor John Cook, who already faces a lawsuit filed by a religious group thatwants him recalled, now faces a second legal battle from a local bar owner.

The owner of the club, Mike Armstrong, is suing the mayor for comments he made last year that Armstrong claims negatively affected him.

Armstrong said that Cook publicly made a statement on television in March 2011 that he claims are untrue.

"It's been an area that I don't think most people would consider being, a first-class shopping center,” Cook said of the area around the club.

"The mayor is just doing his job," said David Garcia of central El Paso. Garcia is a homeowner who lives near the club and says Cook did right by speaking up on behalf of neighbors. Residents surrounding the Three Legged Monkey club complained about violence, noise and littering. "This guy shouldn't be able to sue the mayor or the city of El Paso," Garcia said.

KFOX-14 viewers had mixed reaction to the lawsuit and have shared their opinions on our Facebook page.

Jamie Media says: "Sounds to me like Cook needs to resign now while he's got some dignity left in him."

Another viewer, Rebecca Harris, takes the mayor's side: "The 'facts' that the mayor said are not untrue. It is the opposite."

Armstrong has also said he is considering suing the city of El Paso.
