EL PASO, Texas —

The holiday season can be a hard time for some low-income families, and Adam Gurrola wanted to make sure that he could provide a Christmas to the less fortunate.

Gurrola, a project coordinator for TVP Non-Profit Corp., which provides services such as affordable housing, delivered toys to children in a northeast El Paso neighborhood that he once called home.

"It's always important to give back," Gurrola said. "I grew up in this community; I was one of these kids that didn't have anything under the tree. It really touches some strings with me."

Gurrola and his helpers loaded up large containers filled with toys and went door to door to deliver toys to unsuspecting children. Both the children's and their parents' eyes lighted up with glee as they were presented with wrapped toys.

Gurrola teamed up with Cutt Master Barber College on Dyer Street to get toys for children who he said missed the deadline to be a part of Toys for Tots. Employees and patrons either donated toys or provided funds to purchase the toys for the children.

"(We're) trying to make Christmas possible for some of these kids that probably wouldn't have a gift under the tree," Gurrola said.

He said they tried to get at least 150 toys for the children, and they ended up with almost 200 gifts.

"We were wrapping gifts until we dropped," Gurrola said.
