El Pasoans can expect to see temperatures in the teens

By Veronica Macias

The temperature took a significant dip on Tuesday morning.  Some areas of the borderland as low as 18 degrees.

The freezing cold had people staying indoors and those who headed out layered up. People reported seeing less people out in the streets.

"I've got a jacket on, a hoodie, this sweater and a long sleeve shirt. I even have a face mask," said Omar De La O. He is one of the few people who stopped in at Walgreens at Mesa and Sunland Park.

According to KFOX-14 weather forecaster Brad Montgomery, Tuesday morning was one of the coldest this winter.

In El Paso the temperature dropped to 22 degrees.

The cold was particularly difficult for the homeless. There were several homeless individuals who took shelter at local fast food restaurants.

"I can stand it out here and it ain't no thing because I'm going to go home and I have heating and I have blankets and I have clothing, and I'm safe. But you have to ask yourself how many people are going to die," said Martha Nieto of west El Paso.

El Paso's Dame La Mano women's shelter asked people to donate blankets.

The local area is expected to remain in the low twenties for the remainder of the week.

No deaths due to the freezing temperatures were reported.
