SOCORRO, N.M. —

An El Paso Woman was killed Monday night when she was hit by a drunken driver traveling the wrong way on Interstate 25, officials said.

State police said Bertha Sanchez, 42, was part of a three-car crash that happened around 10:30 p.m. just seven miles south of Socorro, N.M.

A Cadillac, driven by Reyes Duran, 21, was headed north in the southbound lanes when he collided with a Honda, officials said. Duran's vehicle came to a stop in the middle on the lanes and was hit by a van.

Sanchez was a passenger in the Honda and died at the scene, police said.

Three people in the Honda were taken to Socorro General Hospital. One person was in critical but stable condition and was flown to the University of New Mexico hospital in Albuquerque, police said.

Duran, who was arrested on a drunken driving charge, was taken to Socorro General Hospital with minor injuries.
