EL PASO, Texas —

The El Paso Independent School District could be having a change of heart. The school board appears now to be looking for a new superintendent sooner instead of later.

Beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday, the board will be meeting at district headquarters, and on the agenda is an item to appoint a new temporary superintendent.

EPISD has been plagued with controversy over the last year. First, the superintendent was arrested and along with that came the announcement that students' grades were changed and others held back.

Terri Jordan has led the district since former Superintendent Lorenzo Garcia was arrested in August 2011.

Garcia pleaded guilty in a scheme for a contract he steered for his alleged lover and a scheme to increase student tests scores by any means necessary.

Jordan has come under fire because of that guilty plea, dodging questions of her knowledge of that scheme.

There has been speculation that more administrators could be indicted in that case, but as of right now, Jordan will only say she is not resigning from the district.

A KFOX 14 crew caught up with Jordan Monday night and asked what her future will be with the district.

"That is a question that the board will be discussing," said Jordan.

In June, Jordan's contract was extended to the 2012-2013 school year.

District officials said because the conversation is happening behind closed doors, they can not comment at this point, but KFOX 14's Martina Valverde will have a full report on their decision tonight at 9.
