El Paso roads identified as some of Texas' busiest

By Veronica Macias

EL PASO, Texas —

Two stretches of road, I-10 between US 54 and SL 375 and FM 659 or Zaragosa/George Dieter, in El Paso are identified as some of the most congested in the state of Texas, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

"Everything is going to go through there,"  Viena Pagen of Central El Paso said.

TX-DOT released their 100 Most Congested Roadways list on Friday.

Plenty of drivers told KFOX14 News that they frustrated with the traffic on I-10 on Sundays when there is construction going on at the Geranimo Bridge.

FM 659 was listed as 63rd worst roadway in Texas.

"I thought it would be in the number two or three. It's terrible. But I've driven in California and now that over there is nothing compared to here," David Franco who delivers pizzas said.

These drivers believe the roadways are keeping up with El Paso's growth. Currently there are several projects throughout El Paso to help eliminate the congestion in these areas.

TX-DOT is in the progress of the Loop 375 expansion project that will open up toll roads in hopes of relieving some of the congestion on I-10.

But with so many oranges cones on all parts of El Paso's highway some drivers think a different approach should have been taken by TX-DOT.

"Right now, whats going on is there's a lot of construction areas going on around town everywhere, I think they should point - focus on one point only and finish that," David Franco from east El Paso said.
The border highway expansion project is expected to be completed in July 2013.
