El Paso Ranks 70th In Traffic Congestion

EL PASO, Texas —

With Los Angeles being the worst at No. 1, El Paso ranks 70th in terms of traffic congestion according to a new report.

"The east side is growing, and it is going to be coming pretty much congested if there is no more access routes coming toward Horizon," said Luis Sifuentes from East El Paso.

"I've been to Dallas and Phoenix and other big cities and they're traffic is really bad. Here it's not that bad, I get to work in 15 minutes and I live 20 minutes from work," said Jose Salas, from Northeast El Paso.

The report, from INRIX, a traffic information company, breaks down El Paso's traffic into all kinds of categories and statistical tidbits.

So where should you avoid and when? That would be I-10 West, at the Lee Trevino exit, from 7a.m. to 8 a-m. on Thursdays. Expect to drive then and there at an average speed of 21 mph.

"Lee Trevino does not extend all the way to the Border Highway, I would assume if they would make an extension, it would ease out the traffic a little more," said Sifuentes.

The report said just three years ago, El Paso was ranked 90th. "Three years ago, it wasn't as bad as it is now," said Danny Montoya, from Far East El Paso.

Montoya just returned to El Paso after being gone for the last three years.

"I can tell it's a little bit, much more congested now then what it normally was three years ago," he said.

The top five bottlenecks in El Paso were all on I-10.
