EL PASO, Texas —

The funeral was held Friday for an El Paso policeman who died after an off-duty beating while trying to stop vandalism to his personal car.

Jonathan Molina, 29, died Oct. 5 after he was severely beaten Sept. 25 in the 4200 block of Trowbridge.

The former Marine suffered a fractured skull and brain damage.

The suspect, Juan Antonio Gonzalez, who had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer, was charged with capital murder.

Gonzalez, who was being held at the El Paso County Jail, saw his bond raised from $200,000 to $5 million.

Another teen has been charged with evading arrest in the attack in which Molina confronted three people after his car was keyed.

Molina was laid to rest at Fort Bliss National Cemetery Friday afternoon.
