EL PASO, Texas —
Police are trying out new tactics for reducing crime in the area through Operation Corridor.
"It's a zero tolerance effort. Therefore, traffic violations that we see are being stopped and addressed. We're also running citizens license. We're checking on any warrants," said Sgt. Christine Saiz, El Paso police.
Saiz said 80 percent of those arrested had outstanding traffic warrants. On average police arrested 30 people per night.
"We brought the money to bail her (mother-in-law) out and everything should be ok," said Valerie Derego, who's mother-in-law was arrested for an unsettled ticket. Officers caught her when she switched lanes without using the blinker.
"I don't really think that's fair, you know. I think they should be out doing something else than stop people for little things," said Derego.
