EL PASO, Texas —

Mayor John Cook and two City Council members, Susie Byrd and Steve Ortega, were honored at a special City Council meeting Thursday.

They were congratulated on their efforts on transit improvements, downtown revitalization, parks and other accomplishments that have happened over the last eight years.

"We really felt it was important to celebrate their legacy, since this will be the last time we will be doing this together," said El Paso City Manager Joyce Wilson.

"One of the best things about this administration is that we had an achievable list of things that we needed to get done, and we worked diligently on them," Cook said.

Ortega will be running for mayor of El Paso, and Cook and Byrd have reached their term limits. The next election will be in May.
