El Paso Man Pleads Guilty To Robbing Banks, Pawn Shops

EL PASO, Texas —

An El Paso man pleaded guilty to robbing four banks and stealing jewelry from five El Paso businesses Wednesday.

Ismael Serna Moreno, 45, also admitted to using two different guns in two of the robberies.

Investigators said Moreno is accused of robbing First Compass Bank, BBVA Compass Bank and two Bank of Americas between April and June of 2009. He is also accused of stealing jewelry from two Cash America Pawn shops, Benny’s Pawn Shop, and two First Cash Pawn shops between February of 2007 and March of 2009.

Moreno faces 20 years in prison for each bank robber, and 32 years to life in prison for the firearms charges.

Moreno is scheduled to be sentenced Dec.4.
